Back in December, Autocar UK reported that the Jaguar C-X75 will be featured in Spectre, the new James Bond film. The supercar will reportedly be driven by Franz Oberhauser, the movie’s villain. Now, Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the C-X75 will indeed make an appearance in the movie, along with two other cool rides.
In a statement released on Monday, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it has three vehicles featured in the 24th movie in the James Bond franchise. The Jaguar C-X75 is joined by two Land Rover vehicles: the Land Rover Defender Big Foot and the Range Rover Sport SVR. JLR noted that these two models were supplied by its Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations division, which specializes in high-specification vehicles as well as bespoke and heritage models.
JLR did not directly say that the C-X75 will be the ride of Oberhauser, who was portrayed by Austrian actor Christoph Waltz. However, the automaker did say that the car will be part of a car chase scene shot in Rome that also involves the Aston Martin DB10. The DB10 has been confirmed as 007’s car.
JLR also mentioned in the press release that the sequences that involve the Land Rover Defender Big Foot and the Range Rover Sport SVR were shot in Austria.
Built to commemorate Jaguar’s 75thanniversary, the C-X75 premiered as a concept at the 2010 Paris Auto Show. The supercar turned heads with its sleek styling and created much buzz because of its powertrain. The 2010 C-X75 was a hybrid fitted with four electric motors and diesel-powered twin turbines.
The C-X75 was supposed to go into production (and come with a price tag of nearly £1million), but Jaguar shut down the project because of the recession. It is uncertain if the car would ever go into production, but at least it can be seen in action on the silver screen. The C-X75 in Spectre will reportedly be powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine rather than its original hybrid powertrain.
It is unlikely that the Land Rover Defender Big Foot would enter production, so people would have to see the movie to see how the vehicle performs in off-road settings. JLR Special Operations made the Big Foot ready for Bond’s all-terrain adventures by equipping it with 37-inch tires, customized suspension and improved body protection.
The only Spectre vehicle that moviegoers can expect in showrooms is the Range Rover Sport SVR, the 2015 model of which is already on sale. Just like the C-X75 in the movie, this SUV is equipped with the 5.0-liter V8 that puts out 550 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 162 mph.
