If you want a luxury sedan that can quench your thirst for excellent performance but does not look bland, consider owning a 2014 Audi A6. It’s got cutting-edge technology, stylish body and cabin, and an attractive engine lineup with quattro all-wheel drive.

NEW FOR 2014 A6

  • diesel V6 engine
  • 220-hp 4-cylinder engine
  • discontinuation of Premium trim level for 3.0T models

UNDER THE HOOD

The engine lineup for the 2014 Audi A6 consists of 3 choices. The first one is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a continuously variable transmission or CVT and front-wheel drive system. A combination of an all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission is optional.

The second engine option is a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that generates 310 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive, 8-speed automatic and stop-start technology are standard.

Finally, the A6 can now be had with a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6. It can motivate the A6 with 240 horsepower and a whopping 428 pound-feet of torque. It also gets an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive system.

Here are the EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2014 Audi A6:

City Highway Combined
2.0L FWD, CVT 25 mpg 33 mpg 28 mpg
2.0L quattro, 8-spd automatic 20 mpg 29 mpg 23 mpg
3.0L V6 quattro, 8-spd automatic, supercharged 18 mpg 27 mpg 22 mpg
3.0L V6 quattro 8-spd automatic, turbocharged diesel 24 mpg 38 mpg 29 mpg

ON THE ROAD

The A6 is underpowered with the base 2.0-liter engine that comes with a CVT and front-wheel drive system. Stepping up a bit to the quattro-eight-speed combination makes the luxury sedan sportier. The 3.0-liter V6 gives a more refined ride. And though it brings great fuel economy, the diesel engine pulls off impressive acceleration.

Not all vehicles in the segment are as communicative as the Audi A6. The sedan provides a lot of grip and is compliant when shifting directions. A minor flaw, though, involves the electric power steering which could do better in delivering feedback.

INSIDE THE 2014 A6

As expected with every Audi vehicle, the A6 shows off elegant and high-class cabin. Materials are of premium quality and every element seemed to have been placed delicately. This impressive design does not compromise the cabin’s functionality and comfort, though.

The Audi A6 has an impressive array of cabin tech which you can already take advantage by purchasing just the base model. Some of the must-have features are Bang & Olufsen sound system, Audi MMI Touch, navigation system, adaptive cruise control, and full park assist system.

All seats are comfortable and supportive, especially that they’re available with heating and cooling functions. But reviewers have mixed opinions about the rear seat. Some say it has more legroom than other vehicles in the class. Others think that the cushions are too low, making them slightly less comfortable for taller passengers. Meanwhile, the 14.1-cubic-foot trunk is average for the segment.
